The Utah Warriors have added Frederick ‘Frikkie’ De Beer for the remainder of the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old loosehead prop is 6’3″ and 250 lbs.
Frikkie is from South Africa and currently lives in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Hoërskool Brits, graduating in 2009. He then attended North-West University Potchefstroom from 2011-2014, playing rugby for the Barbarians at the University. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science. He also spent time as a Camp Counselor at the Warthog Lodge while attending the University.
Following his graduation, he moved to the U.S. and played rugby with the Chicago Lions since 2015. The team went to the Elite Cup Championship in 2018.
Frikkie hopes to contribute in his Major League Rugby debut for the Utah Warriors against Rugby United New York on April 20, 2019.
