New England Free Jacks Competitive in Loss to Munster A

The fourth match of the Cara Cup feature the New England Free Jacks vs Munster A on Saturday, April 6 at the Irish Cultural Centre GAA Field in Canton, MA. The Free Jacks played a competive match losing 38-19 to Munster A.

In the first match, the Connacht Eagles defeated the New England Free Jacks 38-7. The second had the Connacht Eagles beating the Ulster Ravens 44-21. In the third match, the New England Free Jacks lost to Ulster A 43-15.

The fifth match will have Irish Provincial A sides, Munster and Leinster meeting on Wednesday 10th April, 7.00pm (1 am Irish time) at Union Point Sports Complex, Weymouth MA. The sixth will have the Free Jacks facing Leinster A on Sunday 14th April, 5.00pmat Harvard Mignone Field, Boston MA.

Match Recap

Prior to the match, Munster’s Paddy Kelly was replaced by Old Crescent’s Cian Reale due to illness.

The New England Free Jacks struck first with a try by Danny Collins, which was converted by captain Tadhg Leader for a 7-0 lead.

Munster A then responded with four tries by Alan Tynan, Alex Wootton, Gavin Coombes, and captain Duncan Williams and two conversions by Ben Healy for a 24-7 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, Munster extended the lead to 31-7 with a Sean O’Connor try, which was then converted to lead 31-7.

The Free Jacks then answered back with a try by Leader to cut the lead to 31-12. A Leader grub and a Peceli Rinakama chip and chase resulted in a highlight Free Jacks try, with Leader slotting the kick as New England moved to within 12 points of Munster A, 31-19.

In the final minute, Munster A’s James McCarthy added a try with James Hart converting for a final of 38-19.

The fifth match of the Cara Cup will feature Munster A taking on Leinster A at Union Point Sports Complex in Weymouth, Massachusetts on Wednesday. The New England face Leinster A on Sunday, April 14 at 5.00pm at Harvard Mignone Field, Boston MA.
