New England Free Jacks vs Munster A: 2019 Cara Cup

The fourth match of the Cara Cup will feature the New England Free Jacks vs Munster A on Saturday, April 6 at the Irish Cultural Centre GAA Field in Canton, MA. Tickets are still available for the 4:00 pm kickoff and the match is being broadcast on NESNplus. Prior to the match, the Wolfhounds will play Mystic River at Noon with youth and greyhounds matches to follow ahead of the featured Cara Cup match.

In the first match, the Connacht Eagles defeated the New England Free Jacks 38-7. The second had the Connacht Eagles beating the Ulster Ravens 44-21. In the third match, the New England Free Jacks lost to Ulster A 43-15.

The fifth match will have Irish Provincial A sides, Munster and Leinster meeting on Wednesday 10th April, 7.00pm (1 am Irish time) at Union Point Sports Complex, Weymouth MA. The sixth will have the Free Jacks facing Leinster A on Sunday 14th April, 5.00pmat Harvard Mignone Field, Boston MA.

Match Comments

New England Free Jacks Josh Smith has made three changes in his starters with Simon Courcoul stepping in for Anthony Purpura at loosehead prop, Ronan McCusker gaining a start at lock with Conor Kindregan shifting to No. 8 and Pago Haini moving to the reserves. Oliver Engelhart gets his first start at scrumhalf with Erik Thompson on the reserves. Isaiah Lopez also joins the matchday roster on the reserves.

Munster A starters will consist of five senior players, eight Academy and two club players with Duncan Williams the team captain.

Senior players include Liam O’Connor at loosehead prop, Dave O’Callaghan, and Cono Oliver at flanker, captain Duncan Williams at scrumhalf and Alex Wootton at wing. Club players include tighthead prop Luke Masters from Shannon, and Conor Phillips from Cork Constitution at wing. All other starters are Academy players.
In the reserves, David Jennings plays for Dolphin RFC, while Billy Scannell and Paddy Kelly play for Young Munster, the other reserves consist of Academy players.

Munster Rugby A touring side will consist of 27 athletes comprised of a mix of senior, Academy and club players. The club will face the New England Free Jacks on Saturday, April 6 Irish Cultural Centre (ICC) in Canton, Massachusetts. and Leinster A the following Wednesday at Union Points Sports Complex in Weymouth, Massachusetts.

Six senior players have been included – Liam O’Connor, Conor Oliver, Dave O’Callaghan, Duncan Williams, James Hart, and Alex Wootton.

The 12 Academy players involved are Keynan Knox, Eoghan Clarke, Seán O’Connor, Gavin Coombes, Jack Daly, Jack O’Sullivan, Jack Stafford, Ben Healy, Alex McHenry, Seán French, Alan Tynan, and James McCarthy.

The nine club players travelling to Boston are David Jennings (Dolphin RFC), Paddy Kelly (Young Munster), Luke Kingston (Highfield), Luke Masters (Shannon), Shane O’Driscoll (Midleton RFC), Ross O’Neill (Cork Constitution FC), Conor Phillips (Young Munster), Cian Reale (Old Crescent RFC) and Billy Scannell (Young Munster).
