Men’s Eagles to USA Sevens Cup Quarters After Beating France

The USA Men’s Eagles Sevens team defeated France 19-10 for second place in Pool B. They will face South Africa, the Pool C winner at 9:10 pm today at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

The USA Men’s Eagles Sevens opened the USA Sevens with a 26-10 win over Kenya and followed with a jolting 26-24 loss to Argentina as time expired.

The USA vs France

The Eagles Sevens team entered the match against France knowing that they needed to beat France to advance to the Cup Quarterfinals. A Danny Barrett to Ben Pinkelman offload resulted in the first score of the day. Pierre Mignot was sent to the bin and soon after Martin Iosefo took an offload from Folau Niua for a try under the posts. Madison Hughes then slotted the conversion for a 12-0 lead at the break.

The Eagles extended their lead after Paulin Riva was sent to the bin for a tip tackle on Hughes. Matai Leuta then found a seam and the ball was swung wide left for a second Iosefo try. Hughes slotted the conversion for a 19-0 lead.

France then answered back with a Sadek Deghmache try in the right corner despite being down a man. After Leuta was sent to the bin for not releasing after the tackle, France added another try by Thibault Massolenito cut the final score to 19-10.

With the win, USA finishes in second place in Pool B and will face Pool C winner at 9:10 pm EST.
