USA Men’s Eagles Head Coach Gary Gold continues to juggle his match-day squad as he attempts to cooperate with European and Major League Rugby Clubs. The 13th ranked Eagles will face 17th ranked Uruguay this Saturday, March 2 in the fourth round of the Americas Rugby Championship 2019 at Starfire Sports. Kickoff is set for 10 PM Eastern Standard Time, LIVE on FloRugby.
Head Coach Gary Gold has made five changes to the starting roster forwards Joe Taufete’e at hooker and Tevita Tameilau at flanker. Taufete’e is only one try away from passing Keith Wood as the highest scoring front row forward in test match rugby history.
There are three changes in the backs with Shaun Davies getting a week’s rest and Ruben de Haas gaining a start at scrumhalf. Marcel Brache returns at wing and Will Hooley will be at fullback.
Nick Boyer, who earned his first cap in November, could make his first Americas Rugby Championship appearance off the bench. John Quill, Dylan Audsley and Gannon Moore will also be key contributors from the bench.
Saturday’s match-day 23 features 342 cumulative caps.
Head Coach Gary Gold said “We had a number of penalties which put us in a really compromising position against Brazil last week. Especially in the second half when the match almost got away from us. Our performance in these next two games is absolutely crucial, not only from a competitive point-of-view but also from a preparation point-of-view as consistency in execution is a key focus in a World Cup year. We’re in the home stretch now and look forward to closing out the ARC with our vibrant home fans in Seattle.”
Both teams have qualified for Rugby World Cup Japan 2019 and the USA will look for greater consistency as the squad continues its preparation for the World Cup.
Next week the Men’s Eagles will close out the tournament against rival-Canada with a matchup also taking place at Starfire Sports in Seattle, WA. Tickets for both games are available at usarugby.org/tickets with a live stream available on FloRugby exclusively in the United States.
Uruguay has selected a very strong squad against the U.S. The team is utilizing eight Major League Rugby players, with one as a reserve. An additional player was part of the extended squad.
