Rugby United New York signed Jimmy Wolfer for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old flyhalf is 5’9″ and 182 lbs.
Jimmy is from Rockaway Beach, New York and attended Xavier High School. He played football at quarterback for two years and played rugby for four. The team was nationally ranked and toured with the team to Ireland. He was a USA Rugby High School All-American and toured Argentina in 2013.
From 2013-2017 he attended Saint Joseph’s University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He played rugby 15s and 7s with the team, participating in the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship each year. He was the leading point scorer for the team and the captain. He helped lead the team to undefeated seasons in 2016 and 2017. He won awards as the 2016 Keystone 15s MVP, the 2016 Goff Rugby Report D1AA Runners-up MVP, the Hawks 2016-2017 15s and 7s MVP, and was selected as a 2017 Collegiate All-American. He also played for the Liberty Conference All-Stars in Bermuda.
Jimmy also played rugby 7s and 15s for New York Athletic Club and at the 2019 Winter 7s for Schuylkill River. He made his debut for Rugby United New York during their 2018 preseason in December and will play for the team in 2019.
