Houston SaberCats Adds Amro Gouda

The Houston SaberCats have added Amro Gouda to the squad in time for their second 2019 Major League Rugby match against the San Diego Legion. The 27-year-old hooker is 6’1″ and 235 lbs. He played for NOLA Gold Rugby Club during the preseason and was part of their team in 2018. He also played with New Orleans Rugby Club in 2018.

Amro is from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a long-standing member of the Charlotte Rugby Club as a player, captain, and as a coach for the Charlotte Junior Rugby Association.

He attended Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He then attended the University of North Carolina, Charlotte from 2010-2014 earning a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Political Science and Government and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Economics. He also played rugby at the University.

Amro played representative rugby for the USA Rugby South Panthers, Stars Rugby XVs, and for Negro y Azul 7s.

With USA Rugby South, he played in the Savannah St. Patrick’s Tournament and against the Capital Rugby Union Selects in 2017. He played against the Cayman Islands in the 2018 RAN Championship and toured with the Panthers to Central Europe against Hungary, Austria, and the Chech Republic.

He played for Stars Rugby XVs against Life University in 2015 and played in the Rugbytown 7s with Negro y Azul that same year.

Amro moved to New Orleans and played with the New Orleans RFC, as well as NOLA Gold Rugby Club in 2018. Although the Gold has not made an official announcement for 2019, he has appeared in preseason matches and is expected to see playing time with NOLA Gold in 2019.
