Glendale Raptors Maximo de Achaval

The Glendale Raptors added Maximo de Achaval for a second Major League Rugby season. The 32-year-old fullback is 5’1″ and 190 lbs.

Maximo was born in Amarillo, Texas, but grew up and attended high school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began playing rugby at 10 years old, attending an all-boys school. Maximo attends the University of Colorado, Boulder from 2004-2008, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and from 2010-2012 at the Denver Campus, earning a Master’s degree in Bioengineering.

Maximo is married and has a daughter, and like many veteran players, it is the family support which allows him to continue to play rugby.

He has been playing both rugby 7s and 15s at a high level for many years. He has played with the Denver Barbarians in 7s for many years, playing in several National Club 7s Championship tournaments. He also played Super Rugby with Denver in 2009, played for the USA Selects in 2013 and for Denver in the Elite City 7s in 2014. In 2016 he played with the Dever Stampede and has played with the Glendale Raptors in 15s for the last few years. In 2017 and in 2018 Maximo also played for the Classic Eagles in the Bermuda World Classic.

Maximo’s return to the Raptors for 2019 will provide the depth needed in the 16 game MLR season. He was a key player for the team in 2018.
