The Houston SaberCats added Matt Almeida to the team for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old prop is 5’11”, 310 lbs and is from San Jose, California and lives in Gilroy.
Matt is of Portuguese and Tongan heritage. He attended Christopher High School form 2009-2012 and played football. He also has played rugby for the South Valley Bucks, the San Jose Seahawks, and for the West Houston Lions.
Matt played for the Houston SaberCats in preseason matches against the Glendale Raptors and Austin Elite Rugby. Matt was selected as a reserve for the opening 2019 match against Austin Elite Rugby. Matt is a real force in the front row and will be an asset for the team in 2019.
