The Utah Warriors have added a versatile back in Johnny Ika. The 26-year-old fullback is 5’5″ and 196 lbs. He also has played scrumhalf and wing.
Johnny is from Ha’akame, Tonga and attended Liahona High School in Nukalofa, Tongatapu studying Music Technology and Tangaroa College in Auckland, New Zealand. He has also served the LDS as a missionary.
Johnny played rugby in 2016 for the Wairarapa Bush and in 2017 for the Moutere RFC in the Marlborough Division 1 and in the NPD Tasman Trophy. In 2017 he also played with the Tasman Makos B against Canterbury B and Wellington B sides. In 2018 he switched to the Hawkes Bay Magpies Mitre 10 Cup team.
In 2018 he also had some National team exposure playing for Tonga A in the Americas Pacific Challenge.
In 2019 he faces a new challenge in playing MLR with the Utah Warriors. He was named as the starting fullback for the team in their opening match against Austin Elite Rugby.
