Austin Elite Rugby Adds Craig Welborn

Austin Elite Rugby added Craig Welborn for the team’s second 2019 Major League Rugby season match against the Utah Warriors on February 1. Craig and his twin brother Brian played with the team in a preseason match on January 11 against the Houston SaberCats.

The 36-year-old lock/back row is 6’4″ and about 215+ lbs. He is from Austin, Texas and attended West Lake High School. He then went to Sam Houston State on a football scholarship, but was injured and transferred to Texas State University and graduated in 2008.

Craig and his brother Brian run the Welborn Woodworks, a company that they founded in 2010. That led to them being on TV on the 2014 HGTV Series, Flipping the Block. They are also longtime members of the Austin Huns.

Craig is currently on the Board of Directors for the Huns. He was a member of the Austin Elite Squad in 2016 with the team winning the USA Rugby Division 1 National Championship in 2017. Craig also played on the Texas Men’s All-Stars in 2015.

Craig is a seasoned veteran and is poised to contribute to Austin Elite Rugby in 2019.
