Austin Elite Rugby signed Dylan Pieterse for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old lock is 6’7″ and 250 lbs.
Dylan is from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He began playing rugby when he was 11 years old. In 2011 he represented the Golden Lions in the Under-16s Grant Khomo Week. In 2012 and 2013 he played for the KES first team.
His size and agility helped the back row gain attention and he joined the Blue Bulls Academy during 2014. He also played for the Pumas Under-19s squad in the Provincial Championships that year and was named ‘Player of the Year’. The following year he played in the Provincial Championship for the Under-21s. He also played club rugby in 2015 for Witbank Ferros, making 4 appearances in the Community cup competition.
In 2016 Dylan moved to Australia and joined the Western Force’s Future Force program in Perth while training with the Super Rugby side. He also played club rugby for Cottesloe in the Premier-Grade league in Western Australia, making 16 appearances and scoring four tries. He then returned to South Africa and joined the Eastern Province Kings for the 2016 Currie Cup. Since 2017 he has played with the Boland Cavilers and now joins Austin Elite Rugby for the 2019 MLR season.
