The Utah Warriors have signed Kenny Scott for a second Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old flanker is 6’4″ and 220 lbs.
Scott began playing rugby in 2007 and played in College at Kansas State University/ Fort Riley RFC in 2011. When there, he also played rugby sevens for the Kansas City Blues and has been the Captain of the team for the last six years. In 2016 he helped to lead the team to the National 2nd place finish and in 2014 the team finished in third. He also is an accomplished 15s player for the Blues.
Kenny has played for representative sides as a sevens player. He was selected for the Collegiate Heart of America All-Stars team. He has played for Atlantis 7s in Cuba, Tobago and twice in Las Vegas. He is a two-time member of the West 7s All-Stars, played for the Denver Elite 7s in 2015 and was selected for the USA Hawks 7s team. The Denver team played at the Rugbytown 7s, the Elite City 7s in 2014 and the Halloween 7s in 2015. As a result of their performance in the latter tournament, the team was selected to play in the Coral Coast 7s in Fiji in January 2016.
Kenny started playing rugby while at Kansas State University “Not in my lifetime did I think I would ever play professionally,” Scott said. “But I’ve been known to have a little bit of speed here and there, so I’m a pest, I guess.” ‘His late start was not an issue, however, as he quickly became captain of the Kansas City Blues 7 team. This past leadership role instilled the importance of teamwork into his gameplay.’
“Our team motto this season is ‘stand together, stand as one,’” Scott said. “We decided at the beginning of the season that we were going to be a brotherhood and be protective of each other.”
During the 2019 season, the team will look for his leadership and strong physical play.
