Austin Elite Rugby signed Canada center Doug Fraser for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. He is 26-years-old, 5’8″ and 205 lbs.
Doug is from Ladysmith, British Columbia and attended Ladysmith Secondary School from 2005-2010. He then attended the University of Victoria from 2010-2015, earning a BA in History with a focus on British Columbia and Canadian History and a Minor in Political Science.
While playing for UVics for five years, the team won two national championships. Doug has also played representative rugby with the BC Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship and against England Counties in 2016. He also played for Vancouver Island and North Vancouver Island representative sides. He also played club rugby for the Castaway Wanderers.
Doug also has been part of Rugby Canada’s Centralized Athlete Men’s 15s Program at the Al Charron Rugby Canada National Training Centre. He made his debut for Canada against Brazil in the Americas Rugby Championship on February 17, 2018. He then played against Argentina XV, and Chile before playing against Russia in June.
In the Fall he played for Canada Selects in the Americas Pacific Challenge and was just selected for the for the South American portion of the 2019 ARC for Canada against Uruguay and Brazil.
Doug will add international experience and leadership for Austin Elite Rugby in 2019. What may not be known to many is that he was employed as a forest firefighter from 2013-2016.
