The Utah Warriors signed Eagle Prop Huluhola Moungaloa for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. Huluhola is 29-years-old, 6’2″, and 265 lbs.
He is from Kuluvai, Tongatapu, Tonga and went to Tonga High School. He moved with his family to Hayward, California and attended Patten University in Oakland before attending Saint Mary’s College of California from 2011-2014.
At Saint Mary’s he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Media Studies, was a Marketing Intern with the Athletic Department and Recreational Sports and played rugby for the Gaels.
He then joined San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club for the 2015 Pacific Rugby Premiership. He later played with Life West in both the California Cup and the PRP.
In 2017 Huluhola played with the USA Islanders against the Saracens in Bermuda. He was selected for the 2017 Americas Pacific Challenge with the USA Selects and then made his debut for the Eagles against Germany in Wiesbaden on November 18, 2017. He then played against Georgia in the Fall tests. In 2018 he played in the Americas Rugby Championship, playing against Canada, Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay. He has six caps and is Eagles No. 515.
It was surprising to see that Huluhola did not play in the inaugural MLR season in 2018. During 2019 however, Utah Warriors will add an experienced prop and that is invaluable.
