Michael Houston played for NOLA Gold Rugby Club in the team’s December preseason matches against USA Rugby South and Stars Rugby. He started at center against South and came off the bench against Stars. The 24-year-old back is 5’10” and 205 lbs.
Michael is from Oak Lawn, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. He attended Brother Rice High School, playing both football and rugby for 4 years until graduation in 2012.
He then attended Davenport University from 2012-2017, played D1A Rugby and captained the team. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance.
Michael was then employed in insurance sales in 2017-2018, until he became the Corporate Sales Director for NOLA Gold on December 26, 2018, as well as a player with the team.
From 2017-2018, he also played club rugby with the Chicago Lions. The Lions played in the Elite Cup Final in 2018, losing to Old Blue of New York.
Micheal began 2019 playing for the Midwest Selects on January 5 against NOLA Gold. He came off the bench during the second half and scored a try. That will be the last time he wears another team’s colors, as he will be wearing Gold in 2019. He may also see playing time with New Orleans Rugby Club, for weeks he does not play with NOLA Gold.
