Houston SaberCats Adds Uruguay Prop Mateo Sanguinetti

Houston SaberCats signed Uruguay International Mateo Sanguinetti for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old, 6’1″, 231 lb. prop has made 54 appearances for the Los Teros XVs, 49 of them against National team sides.

Mateo plays club rugby for Los Cuervos and has played for Uruguay A, most recently in the 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge. He made his debut for Uruguay against Paraguay at Asuncion on April 26, 2014 and his last test was against Romania on November 24, 2018.

Mateo played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup for Uruguay and helped the team to qualify as the Americas 2 team for the 2019 RWC. With this in mind, he attended the World Rugby MLR Combine in Glendale, Colorado in September and played on the Americas Rugby Selects against the Glendale Raptors.

The Houston SaberCats saw Mateo play first hand in January, 2018. He impressed then and is now a SaberCat for 2019. He also has some other talents, as he sang the Uruguay National Anthem prior to that match.

Front row players are in demand in the MLR and Mateo will be an excellent addition to the team.
