San Diego Legion Signs Alec Barton

San Diego Legion signed Alec Barton for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. Alec joined the team last May after graduating Saint Mary’s College of California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, and Marketing. The 24-year-old back row. is 6’2″ and 215 lbs.

Alec is from Vista, California and went to Cathedral Catholic High School along with fellow teammate Aaron Mitchell. He played rugby in high school and also with the San Diego Mustangs, winning the Under-19s Southern California Championship in 2013.

While at St. Mary’s College, the team won their third National D1A Rugby Championship in 2017 with Alec being an All-American in 2016 and in 2017. In 2016 he toured with the Collegiate All-Americans to Queensland, Australia and in 2017 played with them against the University of Oxford. He was also named D1A Rugby Player of the Month for January 2017.

During the 2018 Major League Rugby season, teams faced the loss of availability of a number of players due to internationals. Alec was among a number of recent Collegiate graduates that joined MLR teams in the final two months of the seasons.

Alec will see increased action for the team in 2019 as the League expands to a 16 match regular season. He is quick to the breakdown and will be an asset to the team this season.
