The San Diego Legion signed Kapeli Pifeleti at hooker for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. Kapeli is 19-years-old, 6’0″ and 245 lbs.
Kapeli is from Nuku’alofa, Tonga, but spent many years in England where he attended Hailey Imperial Service College in Hertford. He played rugby for the College and was selected to the England Under-18s.
He also played for the Saracens Academy Under-18s and then for the Saracens Storm along with his older brother Faka’osi, who joined the Legion from the Saracens last May.
Kapeli is U.S. eligible having lived in San Francisco for a number of years. He played for the USA Rugby Selects in the 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge.
Kapeli has a bright future in rugby and will likely appear soon for the USA Rugby Men’s Eagles. Playing in San Diego with the Legion will provide increased exposure for him and could propel him into 2019 Rugby World Cup squad consideration.
Kapeli will be an asset in the front row and playing with his brother again will also be special for them and their family.
