Seattle Seawolves & John Hayden
The Seattle Seawolves signed tighthead prop John Hayden for a second Major League Rugby season. The former Central Washington University prop is 26 years old, 6’2″ and 275 pounds.
Hayden is from Fallbrook, California and attended Fallbrook Union High School. He began his rugby career with Fallbrook in 2006 and continued there until his graduation in 2010. Hayden has been inducted into the Fallbrook Rugby Hall of Fame.
Hayden quickly became an accomplished player while at Fallbrook and was selected to the High School All-Americans in 2010. The All-Americans split two matches against Ontario, losing the first 27-26 on July 3, 2010, and then two days later beating them 46-27 to win the series. Hayden also played for the SoCal Griffins Under-18s Select Side in 2009 and again in 2010.
John Hayden & Post High School Rugby
There seems to be an information gap about Hayden from the time he graduated, until when he entered Central Washington University in 2015. It is hoped that this period will be clarified later and then the article will be updated.
Hayden attended Central Washington University from 2015 to 2017, where he has been an outstanding student-athlete. He is a two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference honoree in 2016-2017. He also was a GNAC Far Scholarship Athletic Award Recipient both years. He is listed as a Biology major (Pre-Vet) with a 3.91 GPA his Junior year and 3.96 his Senior year.
In 2017 he was selected as a USA Rugby Collegiate All-American Honorable Mention. During the Fall 2017 season, he played with the Seattle Saracens and was selected as a home reserve for the Americas Pacific Challenge tournament.
Following the 2018 Major League Rugby season, he returned to play with the Seattle Saracens and was selected to the USA Rugby Selects for the Americas Pacific Challenge.
Seattle Seawolves Comments
“We are excited to announce 2019 re-sign, John Hayden. The prop performed consistently from start to finish of the 2018 season. Hayden, recently back from tour with the USA Rugby Selects, adds even more strength to the forward pack and is a powerful runner with the ball in hand. Welcome back to the Seattle Southside, John!”
