Houston SaberCats & Matt Trouville

The Houston SaberCats have re-signed Matt Trouville for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. Matt is also the SaberCats Academy Director which “focuses on high-performance expectations and community. The intent of our High-Performance Academy is to create a clear development pathway from junior rugby to the professional world. The pathway is divided by age group: U20 (Men’s), U19 Varsity (High School), U17 Junior Varsity (High School), and U15 (High School).

Matt is 32-years old, 6’5”, 250 pounds, and is from Darlinghurst, New South Wales a suburb of Sydney, Australia. He attended Woolooware High School and then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Coaching from the Australian College of Education, attending from 2006-2011. Matt returned to Woolooware High School as a teacher from 2010-2011.

Matt played rugby union, as well as rugby league, in Australia with Burraneer Bay Dolphins, Southern Districts (Representative team), Sydney East (Representative team), Cronulla Sharks (Rugby League), the Waratahs, Brumbies, and Southern Districts RFC.

In the United States, Matt played for the Seattle Saracens. He has served as the Atavus Rugby Regional Manager since 2011. He also was Ambassador for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games.

Matt Trouville and USA Rugby National Team

Matt made his debut for the Eagles on November 8, 2014, against Romania in Bucharest. He has since played against Tonga, Fiji, Canada, with his last match against South Africa at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. He started three of the five matches for the Eagles and is No. 456.
