Houston SaberCats & Gabe Romero

The Houston SabeCats signed Gabe Romero for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. He is from Humble, Texas, which is part of the Houston metropolitan area.

Gabe joined the club in June 2018 after graduating from Lindenwood University. The 23-year-old hooker is 5’7″, weighs 215-pounds and played the final two matches against the Glendale Raptors and the Utah Warriors.

Gabe went to Kingwood High School where he played football as a defensive tackle and on the offensive line. He also played for the Kingwood Rugby Club. There he was honored to play for Rugby Texas at the Rockies Mountain Challenge and was selected to the All-Tournament team.

After graduating in 2013, he went to Lindenwood University on a scholarship as a pre-chiropractic major, attending from 2013-2018. While there, he was selected to the USA Rugby Junior All-Americans and competed in the World Rugby Trophy qualifier against Canada in 2015.

In 2017 Gabe also played rugby 7s during the Summer for Houston United Rugby Team. In 2018 he has played with the West Houston Lions D1 team and will see increased playing time in 2019 for the Houston SaberCats.
