Dartmouth Moves to NIRA Championship After Win Against Army

NIRA Semi-Finals: Dartmouth vs Army

Top-seeded Dartmouth College Women’s Rugby defeated No. 4 seed Army West Point Women’s Rugby Club 26-7 on Friday, November 16 at Dartmouth College Scully-Fahey Field.

Dartmouth’s record improved to 8-1 with the win and the team will face the winner of the other NIRA Semi-Final between Harvard and Quinnipiac match on Sunday for the title. The Black Knights saw their season end with a 4-5 mark.

Dartmouth took an early lead with Ariana Ramsey scoring her first collegiate try in the 9th minute. Army answered back with a penalty try in the 17th minute to take a 7-5 lead into the break.

During the second half, the Big Green struck early with a try by Karina Martinez in the 44th minute to reclaim a 12-7 lead. The Black Knights defense played well, however Dartmouth continued to increase their lead with tries by Ale Ada in the 64th minute and by newly capped Women’s Eagle Emily Henrich, in the 68th minute to push the lead to 26-7.

Army continued to try to put additional points of the board without success and the match ended with Dartmouth winning 26-7 over the Black Knights.

The Big Green will make their second consecutive appearance in the NIRA Final and will face the winner of the Harvard/Quinnipiac game at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Scully-Fahey.
