Knoxville Rugby Football Club – Wayne Chermely
The Knoxville Rugby Football Club has announced that Wayne Chermely is the next head coach of the Possums.
Wayne’s rugby career began in 2002 while he was at Bearden High School. Upon graduation, he continued at the University of Tennessee and was selected to play for the Mid-South All-Stars in 2007. He then joined the Knoxville RFC Possums in 2008 and has been playing with them to the present.
During his time with the Possums, he has played over 130 rugby 15s matches, was captain for six consecutive years, was named MVP six times, and was selected to the all-time Possum team at No. 8 in 2010.
He has also been a fixture on the USA Rugby South Panthers, earning twelve caps in international Rugby Americas North (formerly NACRA) competition and was an integral part of two NACRA Championships.
While Wayne is not involved with rugby, he is a Development Engineer at Legend Fitness where he designs innovative strength equipment that is used all over the world in elite strength and conditioning facilities.
Wayne is also a family man. His wife Sarah has given her support throughout his playing career and will continue to do so as he pursues coaching. Wayne and Sarah are the proud parents of 3-year-olds Julia and Grace.
