Chicago Lions Women’s D2 Rugby
The Chicago Lions announced that a Women’s rugby 15s team will compete this Fall in the Midwest Rugby Union and USA Club Rugby Divison 2.
The Lions have fielded a Women’s 7s team for many years and have been very successful as evidenced by the team’s winning the Midwest Championship this year and playing for the 2018 USA Club Rugby 7s National Championship next weekend in New York City.
Building on that success, the Lions have had an interest for years in expanding to include a Women’s Rugby 15s team. That would compliment the Men’s program and the Women’s 7s program that has been among the best club programs in the country. The team has also recently started a Chicago Lions Youth program.
The Chicago Lions have also developed The Lions for Hope Sports Complex. “In 2009, Chicago Hope Academy and Chicago Lions Rugby entered into a unique, mutually-beneficial partnership in ordered to further develop the sport of rugby in Chicago. This partnership has provided the Lions with a home field and clubhouse in the inner city of Chicago while producing financial support and developing a rugby program for Hope Academy. Lastly, the partnership has produced a safe and substantial location to develop all levels of rugby, from youth to Division 1.”
