Houston SaberCats & Chauntez Jackson

Houston SaberCats & Chauntez Jackson

Justin Fitzpatrick has assembled an excellent Houston SaberCats team for the inaugural 2018 Major League Rugby season, but he is a keen judge of talent. Chauntez Jackson at 22 years old, is an imposing man who is 6’4″ tall and weighs 290 pounds. Prior to his signing with the SaberCats, he had never played rugby.

Jackson is from Inglewood, California and went to Inglewood High School. He graduated in 2013 and was a highly rated defensive end in the country. After graduating Inglewood, he then went to the University of Houston, playing football for the Cougars from 2013 through 2017. He also played in the 2017 Hawaii Bowl in December.

Jackson then joined the SaberCats and practiced with the team for two months before he played in a few pre-season matches in February. His first match, he helped the scrum gain two tightheads from opponent put-ins. He is a sponge in learning the game and has been a force when he enters a match.
