Hawaii Rugby Union 2018 season began with Marist Hawaii and Titans Rugby Club wins.

The Hawaii Rugby Union 2018 Season Schedule began on Saturday, January 27 at Kapiolani Park in Honolulu. The men’s season began last Saturday, while the women’s 10s season begins on March 10.

Last year Marist Hawaii and the Titans Rugby Club split the regular season and then met in the championship. Both teams began the 2018 season with narrow wins.

Marist Hawaii Rugby Club defeated the Kalihi Raiders 13-10 in the first match of the day. Setu Lepou scored a try and slotted a penalty kick, while Sonny Fissiahi added a try for Marist. The Raiders’ Alek Escobedo scored a try and Fred Apulu converted the try and added a penalty kick.

In the second match, the Titans Rugby Club edged the Hawaii Harlequins 18-17. Tries were scored by the Titans Inoke Moa and Joey Iosefa, while Fitou Fissiahi converted both tries and added a penalty kick. The Hawaii Harlequins had five players in the scoring column. Justin Blocker and Travis Carrasquillo had tries, Josefa Raika slotted a penalty kick, while both Scott Mead and Giovanni Lapp each added conversions.
