Austin Elite Rugby Signs Robert Drummond

Austin Elite Rugby – Robert Drummond

Austin Elite Rugby Management announced the signing of Robert Drummond as a prop for the 2018 Major League Rugby season. Robert is 6’3”, 275lbs, and 34 years old.

Robert has owned and operated the Green Light Social, a bar in downtown Austin on Sixth Street. This is his first experience as an owner, however, he has been in the restaurant/bar industry since he was 15.

Robert is a native of Austin, Texas and graduated from Westlake High School in 2001. In high school, he played football for 4 years as a defensive tackle. His Senior year the team advanced to the State Championship, finishing as runners-up. He also threw the discus and shot put in track.

Upon graduation from high school, he began playing rugby at the University of Texas, attending from 2002-2005 and left for a few years before returning in 2009 where he completed his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Social Anthropology in 2011.

After his first season with UT rugby, he attended a USA Rugby National Under 19s camp during early summer in 2002. He was also on the Texas Collegiate Selects side for the next 2 years.

In 2005 he left college and began playing rugby with the Austin Huns and has played with them ever since. Being able to play rugby under the leadership of Huns’ head Coach Kirk Tate, was the main reason that Robert indicated that he joined the Huns.

Robert has been a club leader and in 2013 was part of the Texas Cup All-Star Series. The Huns claim to fame will be winning the USA Rugby Club D1 National Championship in 2017. Robert was instrumental in their run to the Championship and that accomplishment will be a memory that will be relived as he interacts with team-mates in years to come.

Robert is now looking forward to the challenge and privilege of playing professional rugby in his hometown.
