Austin Elite Rugby signed Michael Reid, a scrumhalf that was a member of the Austin Huns Rugby Club’s 2017 USA Rugby Club Division1 National Championship.

The Austin Elite Rugby release below presents a comprehensive background about his rugby involvement.

Eric Tabor, USA All-American team manager discussed his early play with the All-Americans indicating that “He has been competing against players three years older than him and he has represented himself very well.”

His play with the All-Americans of positive signs in his early rugby development. Michael would eventually play professionally for the San Francisco Rush in 2016. He then joined the Austin Huns as they progressed toe winning the 2017 USA Rugby CLub Division 1 Championship.

Reid’s coach for that Championship was Eugene Eloff, who indicated that “Michael is a great character, which is typical of a scrumhalf. His great pass, communication skills, and rugby schooling in New Zealand makes him a skilled player. He is a nuggety scrumhalf with a great attitude, who has played at high levels, such as representing the USA at the junior world cup. Michael is a tremendous asset to the Austin Huns and has already shown that he can play the game at a higher level”

Michael Reid comments about playing with Austin Elite Rugby in Major League Rugby league that “ I’m very excited and wait in anticipation for what this season to come holds. I’m looking forward to play with and against the higher caliber of player in the MLR.”

Austin Elite Rugby Management announces the signing of Michael Reid in the #9 scrum half position for the 2018 Major League Rugby season.

Michael began playing rugby at the age of 5 in Durban at Crusaders Rugby Club, then played with the Pirates in Johannesburg. After moving to Virginia, he played for the Warrenton Wolfpack, was a high-school All American for four years, and on the 2014 Junior World Cup Trophy team. He also played for the Taranaki U18, U19, USA under 20s, San Francisco Rush PRO league, and the Austin Huns championship 15’s.

Michael praises his experience with the Huns, saying, “Taking it all the way to the final was something special.” He is looking forward to Major League Rugby “taking off” with “a good bunch of guys around him.” He is excited to be a part of building the new league and focusing on rugby at the highest levels.
