Americas Pacific Challenge: USA Selects vs. Uruguay Preview

The second round of the Americas Pacific Challenge will be held October 11, 2017. The USA Selects will play Uruguay A at 3pm ET. The Selects were defeated by Samoa A 48-26 in the first round. Uruguay A beat Tonga A 34-25.

USA Selects Play Uruguay A on Wednesday October 11, at Estadio Charrua in Montevideo, Uruguay at 3pm ET. The match will be broadcast on The Rugby Channel and on World Rugby outside the U.S.

Americas Pacific Challenge – USA Selects

USA Selects have made eight changes in the starters and have a new addition in the reserves. Chance Wenglewski will start at loosehead prop, while captain Peter Malcolm and Angus MacClellan retain their positions at Hooker and tighthead prop, respectively. Brendan Hardiman comes in  at lock and will partner with Brendan Daly. Flankers Ben Landry will have his first APC action, while Psalm Wooching was a reserve against Samoa A. Aladdin Schirmer retains his position at No. 8.

In the backs, Holden Yungert and JP Eloff move from reserves to starters at scrum half and inside center, respectively. Mike McCarty and Josh Whippy see their first APC action at Flyhalf and wing. Rounding out the backs are Bryce Campbell at outside center, Tim Maurine at wing and Mitch Wilson at fullback.

Kelipi Fifita also will see his first Americas Pacific Challenge action should he enter as a reserve.

Scott Lawrence confirmed Hanco’s availability for Wednesday’s match, “Hanco’s card was immediately dismissed by the citing commissioner upon our appeal, he will make the roster this Wednesday. It was an unfortunate call as we were on our way to the go ahead try with momentum in our favor.”

Americas Pacific Challenge – Uruguay A

Uruguay A will have ten changes from their win over Tonga A. Six of these changes are in the forwards, as the front row has changed. Facundo Gattas and Carlos Arboleya will be the loosehead and tighthead props, while Carlos Pombo is the Hooker. Mathias Palomeque will pair with Diego Magno, who retains his position at lock. In the back row, flanker Leandro Segredo and No.8 Juan Diego Ormaechea will start with Marcos Chamyan retained at flanker.

The halfback combination of captain Guillermo Lijtenstein and Lucas Duran, along with outside center Joaquin Prada return. Rodrigo Bocking will start at inside center, Francisco Lopez at fullbacks, and wings changes Nicholas Freitas and Gaston Mieres.
