Silicon Valley Rugby 7s

United World Sports Release:

September 19, 2017 – NY, NY United World Sports, the owner and operator of the largest annual rugby events in the United States, today unveiled the pairings in pool play for the Silicon Valley 7’s, which will bring most of the world’s greatest rugby playing nations to San Jose’s Avaya Stadium on Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th.

“We feel that the structure of the pool for this event will bring forth some of the great natural rivalries in the global Olympic sport of Rugby 7’s, and should be very exciting both for the nations involved and the thousands of fans who love the fast-growing game of rugby sevens here in the United States,” said Tournament Director Jon Hinkin. “It will be a great first look at as these athletes ready for 2018 and even the Rugby World Cup 7s and the Olympics in 2020.”

The field will mark the first time that squads from the Island nations of Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, will be in the same field since the 2007 USA Sevens. It is also the first time the Irish National Sevens squad will play in the United States and will be the last international tune-up for rising nations Canada and the United States, as well as traditional powers like New Zealand, Japan and Australia, as they ready for the 2017-18 HSBC World Sevens Series.

The Silicon Valley 7’s will also mark the first time the Chinese National team will appear in the United States.

Pool A will have natural rivals England and Ireland along with Canada and Samoa.

Pool B will include Olympic champion Fiji going up against rival Australia, along with a unique and rare matchup between Japan and China.

Pool C will have the home standing USA Eagles matched up with New Zealand, along with Tonga taking on South American power Chile.

In addition to 34 international men’s matches, the event will feature 20 collegiate matches, an international cultural festival, along with an Island concert series.

Tickets start at just $55 and are available now at sevensrugby.com.
