NSCRO Seeks New Men’s 7s Commissioner

West Chester, PA 28 August 2017 – An exciting opportunity is available from the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) to take the lead role in the administration of its Men’s 7s National Playoff Qualifiers and Championship! The successful candidate will spend the 2017-18 season in a limited apprenticeship role shadowing the current NSCRO Men’s 7s Commissioner, Howard Kent. The candidate will follow the Commissioner through the process of organizing the NSCRO Men’s 7s competition. The candidate will be coached through the process over the next year so that the transition will be seamless and allow them to prepare to completely take over the position in the 2018-19 season.
Duties will primarily include the following:
- Lead role managing the NSCRO 7s National Playoff system in coordination with the NSCRO Men’s 7s Committee. The Commissioner reports directly to the NSCRO Commissioner of Men’s Rugby.
- Conduct an investigation to determine the timing & locations of regional NSCRO 7s Qualifiers.
- Update and refine regional NSCRO 7s Qualifiers bid package/ host requirements.
- Review Qualifier bids and send recommendations to the NSCRO Men’s 7s Committee.
- Negotiations with National Championship venue host to review program and requirements.
- Refine team requirements, conditions of entry, tournament rules, instructions to refs, etc.
- Update and Issue NSCRO Qualifying 7s Tournaments Competition Rules and Regulations.
- Prepare press releases to be reviewed by the NSCRO Men’s 7s Committee.
- Manage/oversee the playoff system and establish tasks to be completed and set dates accordingly.
- Work with Regional Coordinators as they manage the QTs in their Region.
- Manage/oversee the National 7s Championship and establish tasks to be completed.
- Update and refine forms including: rosters, brackets, schedules and results.
- Act as on-site Commissioner at the NSCRO 7s Championship.
- Issue match results and name All-Tournament team and MVP.
- Issue and collect team follow up survey.
- Participate in follow up discussions with NSCRO Men’s 7s Committee and NSCRO 7s Championship host.
The Apprentice should have sufficient rugby administrative experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills along with a desire to support the growth and development of small college rugby.
The Apprentice will not receive a stipend but will have travel expenses associated with this role reimbursed by NSCRO. The Apprentice is expected, as a minimum, to attend the 7s National Championship currently expected to be held on the weekend of June 1-3, 2018 at Talen Energy Stadium near Philadelphia, PA. The stipend for the role of Commissioner is negotiable.
