The AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans will assemble for a match against Oxford University Rugby Football Club on Saturday, September 16. Prior to this match Oxford will play Mystic River Rugby Football Club on September 10.
The Collegiate All-Americans match against Oxford University will be broadcast live on The Rugby Channel at 2:30pm ET prior to the Aviva Premiership regular season match between Newcastle Falcons and Saracens at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia presented by AEG. The Premiership match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports. Both the premiership match and All-American game are available under one ticket purchase.
Men’s Collegiate All-American Head Coach Gavin Hickie indicated that “We are incredibly excited to welcome the University of Oxford to the United States. With the continued explosive growth of rugby here, especially collegiate rugby, it is fitting that we are able to test ourselves against one of the oldest rugby teams in the history of our sport.”
The camp that will begin on September 10 at Neumann University in Aston, PA., will include 25 players that have graduated 16 different colleges. Five of those players have represented the United States at the senior level. Bryce Campbell, Matthew Jensen, Peter Malcolm and Alex Maughan have represented the Men’s Eagles 15s, while Malon Al-Jiboori was selected for the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Oxford University Rugby Football Club was founded in 1869 and has produced international players for England and other nations. Several Eagles have represented Oxford, including Gary Hein, Don James, Ray Lehner and Kurt Shuman.
The second part of the American Series Premiership Rugby Weekend will feature the Newcastle Falcons playing the Saracens at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, PA. Current Eagle Nick Civetta plays for the New Castle Falcons and is a former All-American. Former Eagles captain Chris Wyles and Titi Lamositele play for the Saracens.
