Steve Lewis, Northeast Academy, has been named the head coach of the AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans Sevens team.
He will prepare the under-23 National team for the Rugbytown 7s in Glendale, Colorado. Lewis has worked with the Northeast Academy, Army West Point Women and has worked with national athletes at Chula Vista.
Alex Magleby indicated to USA Rugby that “Steve has a proven capacity to identify rugby talent and help those athletes evolve into the senior national teams with limited assembly times. It is also an opportunity for both coaches to continue to be challenged and progress on the coaching ladder.”
Lewis was the 2014 Senior Club Coach of the Year after Old Blue’s men’s team was the runner-up at the 2014 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Club 7s National Championship. He was a founding member of Northeast Academy, and has worked with men’s and women’s college and club athletes to Eagle selections.
Steve is a World Rugby level 3 coach and was the director of rugby for PRO Rugby’s 2016 season.
The head coach of the MCAA Sevens team, along with his assistant coach, Josh Macy of Lindenwood university, will be responsible for identifying talent and coaching the players in competitions. Both will work closely with other staff members, with the AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans XVs staff and additional National Team coaches.
