CBS Sports Network to Broadcast D1A Rugby National Championship

The USA Rugby announced that the CBS Sports Network will be broadcasting the D1A Rugby National Championship that will be played at Saint Mary’s Stadium in Moraga, California.The May 6 broadcast of the D1A Rugby National Championship will air live on CBS Sports Network starting at 7 p.m. ET. CBS Sports Network has broadcast men’s and women’s college sports since its launch in 2002. “As the 24-hour home of CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network airs 35 college sports, including nine NCAA championships.”D1A Rugby Commissioner Kevin Battle said “We couldn’t be happier to have CBS Sports Network as a broadcast partner for our 2017 National Championship event. CBS will provide the televised platform and professionalism that our student-athletes and elite collegiate programs deserve.”
USA Rugby CEO Dan Payne said “This is part of a broader plan as we look to build on the initiative we’ve set forth surrounding elite college rugby. This is very positive news for the current year, however, the broader plan includes a multi-year broadcast partner and several commercial partners. Both of which we are currently in discussions with.”
The USA Rugby is seeking greater exposure to its largest membership base, college rugby. The CBS Sports Network broadcast of the D1A Rugby National Championship in May is another step in generating positive rugby exposure for the fastest growing team sport in the United States.
