There has been a resurgence of select side competitions in the United States. Tiger Rugby and their Academy have been at the forefront of developing players as they move through the high performance pathway that has been created by USA Rugby.
Tiger Rugby Coaches, such as Taylor Howden and Roland Suniula, along with the Columbus Rugby Club (Scioto Valley), will lead the Ohio Colleges Representative Rugby Trials that will be held on April 23 from 3-5pm at 7860 Bevelhymer Rd, New Albany, OH 43054. Both Taylor and Roland were part of the PRO Rugby Ohio Aviators last year.
The Rugby World Cup Sevens is being held in July 2018 in San Francisco and the Rugby World Cup 15s in 2019 in Japan. Being part of Ohio Colleges Rugby Team is an opportunity to showcase athletic talent and could lead to regional or national team selection, such as the the Men’s Junior and Collegiate All-Americans.
The aim of the Ohio Colleges Representative Rugby Trials is to create another vehicle for selection into a National Team/All American setup. The rebirth of the Ohio Colleges Rugby Team begins with the April 23rd tryouts. If selected, Ohio will hold a 3 day camp leading up to a match vs a representative side from Michigan on May 13th.
All players from ANY school in Ohio are welcomed and encouraged to register and trial for this team. Cost is $10 per player due on the day of the trial either by cash or check.
