Penn State Men’s Rugby Claim Rugby East Win Against St. Bonaventure

Penn State Men’s Rugby hosted St. Bonaventure at University Park, PA last night and came away with a 69-24 Rugby East win.

Tomorrow Penn State travels to play the University of Buffalo in another Rugby East match. Penn state will feature an entirely different lineup against the Bulls. On Oct. 8 they travel to face Army in a key match at West Point. St. Bonaventure will host West Virginia next week.

Penn State (5-0, 3-0 Rugby East) had 11 tries from 7 different players, despite the rainy cold conditions. St Bonaventure (1-4, 1-3 Rugby East) scored 4 tries kept up their aggressive play the whole game.

The match was close initially was Peen State jumped to a 12-0 lead before Chaz Schwenk sped away to narrow the score to 12-7. The scoring for the rest of the half went in favor of Penn State as they increased their lead to 33-7 at halftime.

During the second half, Penn State scored four more tries before the St. Banaventure answered with a try. Both teams then scored two additional tries to end the match at 69-24 to Penn state.

Penn State Head Coach Blake Burdette said “I was impressed by the execution of this St. Bonaventure team. You can tell they are very well coached but also pretty young. I am encouraged by the way that we are playing as we continue to get better as a team. On to Buffalo now.”
