Red Bull Uni 7s will see seven universities from across the globe competing in a student rugby sevens competition.

Each university must prove themselves as the best in their country by winning a national competition, which in turn qualifies them for the final shoot-out at the Recreation Ground in Bath on September 17 2016.

This year’s contest has been expanded to include teams from the United States and Brazil, Lindenwood University and Universidad de Paulista respectively. Also competing are the University of Exeter, Cardiff Met, Université de Pau et des Pays de l’amour from France and CUS Milano Rugby from Italy.

Each university team earned the right to line-up alongside the reigning champions by winning national competitions in their home countries. The hosts and reigning two time champion University of Bath, are seeking their third consecutive Red Bull Uni 7s title.

After the group stages, the top two teams will play in the final in front of a capacity 14,000 crowd during half-time of the Aviva Premiership match between Bath Rugby and Worcester Warriors.

Aaron James, Head of Rugby at the University of Bath, said: “It is great to have the Red Bull 7s back in our home town and at The Rec again. The competition continues to get stronger and with the new countries involved this year the challenge is even bigger than before. Red Bull run a well-organised and enjoyable tournament, which is always a pleasure to take part in.”
