Army West Point Women’s Rugby Tops Dartmouth

The Army West Point women’s rugby topped Dartmouth, 63-12, at the Anderson Rugby Complex on Friday evening. This was the second highest total in program history. Both teams now have 1-1 records.

Dartmouth scored first with a try from Frankie Sands and successful conversion by Kat Ramage in the sixth minute. Sydney Hawkins then scored a try for Army six minutes later with Rebeccs Stipp converting to even the score 7 all. At twenty two minutes, Elexa Leach went in for a try and a 12-7 lead for Army.

The back and forth action continued with a Dartmouth try by Eva Klein to even the score at 12 all (31′) before Nicola Newton scored in the final minute prior to halftime for an Army 17-12 lead.

Army then scored 46 additional second half  points to salt away the win. This included tries by Zye Crittington (2), Rebecca Stipp (3), Taylor Jessop (2) and Sydney Hawkins. Rebecca Stipp added 3 conversions.

This match was the first ever meeting between the programs in rugby 15s.

Next week the Black Knights begin a three-game road trip in Springfield, Mass., against American International on Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. The Big Green will travel to Providence against Brown in the 2016 Ivy opener.
