Southern Rugby Conference Release

The Southern Conference has officially started matrix play despite poor timing by Hurricane Hermine. Though our Eastern Division wasn’t able to participate in play this week, our Western Division got things under way. There were some interesting results.
On the Western Side we saw three matches for the week that had the following results:
Furman University 28 – UNCG 0
Furman University backed into a bonus point victory in week 1 as UNCG had to forfeit their opening match of the season. UNCG have successfully gone through some internal restructuring and are looking forward to the remainder of their season. In week 2 of the competition both teams will be on the road as Furman faces Elon and UNCG faces App State.

App State 30 – Wake Forest 11
App State opened up their league season with a solid week 1 home victory over Wake Forest by a score-line of 30-11. App State had three converted try which were scored by Second Rower “Austin Johnson”, Flanker “Liam Winters”, and Reserve “Jack Foreling”. Their other 9 points came through some sharp shooting from Scrum Half “Lucion Murray” and Fullback “Chris Meidinger” who were a perfect combination of 3 for 3 on conversions and 3 for 3 on penalties. App State will be on the road to face UNCG and Wake Forest will host WCU in their respective week 2 matchups. *Scoring summary for Wake Forest not available as they mistakenly did not turn in their match day sheet to the hosts.

UNCC 82 – Elon 12
Leading the charge for UNCC in their bonus point away victory were 8 man “Ryan Johns” and Winger “Josh Summers” who both notched hat tricks. They were closely followed up by Flyhalf “Brandon Sorkin”, Fullback “Blake Jackson”, and Reserve “Michael Basnett” who each had a brace of tries in the comprehensive win. For hosts Elon their Captain and Second Rower “Pat Keneally” and Reserve “Kevin Kumar” both dotted dot in the home opener. UNCC heads into their week 2 bye with the 5 point win, while Elon will gear up to host Furman University in their second round match this coming weekend.

Eastern Division: No matches where played so no table data available.

Western Conference:
UNCC – (1-0) 5 points
Furman – (1-0) 5 points
AHO — (1-0) 5 points
Elon – (0-1) 0 point
Wake Forest – (0-1) 0 point

We will look to see more competition through the upcoming weeks as more teams compete and prepare for the eventual SRC Finals.
