New York Athletic Club Hosts Capital Rugby Union Men’s Selects

Doug Coil

The New York Athletic Club Rugby Club hosts the Capital Rugby Union Selects this Saturday. The kickoff is at 1:15pm. Mike Tolkin returns to take the head coaching reigns for NYAC. Chris Porter is the head coach for the Capital Rugby Union Selects and is assisted by Roland Pratt.

This high performance match will help prepare NYAC for the American Rugby Premiership season, which begins September 10th. New York Athletic Club will travel to play Boston Rugby Club that day.

For the Capital Rugby Union, participating in Select Side Rugby will elevate the standard of play for Union athletes and help their respective clubs improve as well.

The Capital Rugby Union reintroduced Select Side Rugby last August when they won convincingly against the Empire GU Rugby Selects. They then lost to the USA Rugby South Panthers 41-32 on December 12 and won January 31 against the Stars Rugby XV 68-20.

The Capital Rugby Union Women’s Selects are also playing today at Rutgers University against the Empire GU Rugby Selects.

Update: NYAC held a 33-0 lead at halftime. The second half was then scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the second half. NYAC added another 17 points to win the match 50-0.
