Empire GU Rugby Women Hosts Capital Rugby Union Women’s Selects

A trend continues this Saturday August 27th, as the Capital Rugby Union Women’s Selects plays the Empire GU Rugby Women Selects at 1pm. Rutgers University Women’s Rugby Club is hosting the match at 1600 Brett Rd, Piscataway, New Jersey 08854.

Select side matches between rugby unions provide high performance opportunities for athletes.

The Capital Rugby Union held an Open Camp for the Capital Selects on Sunday July 10th at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. From this camp athletes were invited to a invitational camp on August 7th. The later camp served as the selection vehicle for the match against the Empire GU.

The Capital Rugby Union Women’s Selects also played against the British Armies Selects and the Stars Rugby XV this year. They faced the British Armies Selects on May 29, 2016. Although the Capital Women’s Selects lost 43-21, they gained valuable high performance experience. On January 31, 2016 the Capital Women won 55-24 against Stars Rugby XV.

The Empire GU HP Women played at the CanAm Rugby Tournament at Saranac Lake on August 2nd. In Pool play they won 51-0 against Brooklyn and then lost 14-0 to Beantown. In the Consolation Semi-final, they then lost to New York Rugby Club.
