Empire GU High Performance Weekend at Saratoga

Empire GU’s High-Performance Weekend is will kickoff in Saratoga, June 11-12. The weekend will be a vehicle to initiate the selection process for the Empire 15s Selects squad.

The Empire Cup will feature over 120 men’s and women’s athletes competing for selection to respective EGU All-Star squads. As part of the process, EGU HP staff, USA Rugby staff, Northeast Academy coaches and PRO Rugby staff will observe and select the All-Stars.

“This is an exciting and transformative weekend for Empire GU’s High Performance program,” said Ken Pape, EGU President. “We look forward to welcoming our men’s and women’s athletes from across the GU to compete for selection to our respective All-Star teams. It will prove to be a great weekend of rugby and contribute to the growth of the GU.”

Training sessions lead off the day on Sunday, June 12, followed by the Empire Cup at 10:30 am. The All-Star teams will be selected and announced by early mid-afternoon.

On June 11, there will be a USA Rugby National Tracking Camp which all athletes will be encouraged to take part in. Saturday evening, EGU will sponsor a Coaches Round Table. The dinner and round table will feature a distinguished panel, including PRO Rugby North America’s Director of Rugby, Stephen Lewis; U.S. College All-Americans Head Coach Gavin Hickie; Peter Baggetta of the USA Women’s National Team Staff and Dartmouth College’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, James Willocks.
