Cape Fear 7s Rugby Club Press Release: Bob Bogen, Tournament Director

The Cape Fear 7s Rugby Club is pleased to announce that the 42nd Annual Cape Fear 7s Rugby Tournament will be held on July 2-3, 2016. 72 teams will play nearly one hundred 7s matches on Saturday, July 2.  Finals Day is Sunday, July 3. All matches will be played at Ogden Park in Wilmington, North Carolina. The tournament is traditionally held during the July 4th Weekend so that players and their guests can enjoy spending the holiday in Wilmington and its island beaches.

The Men’s and Women’s Elite Division’s will vie for $7,000 in prize money.

Other tournament divisions include:

  • Men’s Club
  • Women’s Club
  • Men’s Social
  • Women’s Social
  • Over 40s Men
  • Southeast Collegiate Championship. This will be a division of true university teams playing against like competition.

Additionally, the club announces the first-ever U19 All Star Division. Tournament Director Bob Bogen says: “This new feature will allow some of the best high school talent available to showcase their skills, and talents, and experience the Cape Fear 7s for the first time as players.”

The Cape Fear 7s Tournament Facebook page: Fear 7s Facebook also is a good source of tournament information.  Due to the 4th falling on a Monday, this is  the perfect setup for a full on weekend of rugby football.
