New England Free Jacks Signs Seta Baker

The New England Free Jacks signed Setaleki Baker for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old flanker (23 in February) is 6’1″,  and 235 lbs.

Seta, who is of Tongan descent, was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. He graduated from the Dilworth School. He then received a rugby scholarship to pursue Aeronautical Engineering at the Nelson Institute of Technology.

Seta played for the Counties Manukau Rugby Under 19s Training Group and was selected for the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Men’s Under 19s Tournament in 2019. He also played for Ardmore Marist.

In 2021 he was selected for the Crusaders Under 20’s to play in the Super Rugby Aotearoa Under 20’s tournament. He also played with Central Rugby Club and the Tongan Barbarians.

At the 2022 Community Awards Ceremony, Tasman honored Seta as their Development Player of the Year. He works as an aircraft engineer and plays rugby professionally for the Tasman Mako in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship (NPC), where he debuted in 2022.
